Authorities Issue AMBER Alert for Abducted 14-Year-Old Girl, Allegedly by 22-Year-Old Man

An AMBER Alert has been issued in Gonzales, Texas, for a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted by a 22-year-old man. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Scarlett Smith went missing on Monday night in the 15700 block of West U.S. Highway 90. She was last seen wearing a red Nike hoodie and is described as 5-foot-4, weighing approximately 187 pounds, with red hair and hazel eyes.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Barry Van Mersbergen, is believed to be driving a tan 2012 GMC Terrain with a Texas license plate number 3RVWG. Police have also mentioned that he may go by the name Ben.

Gonzales, where the incident took place, is located about an hour east of San Antonio. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Scarlett Smith’s whereabouts to contact 911 immediately.
