Austin musician Ben Queller’s 16-year-old son dies: ‘He was a true legend’

Musician Ben Kweller revealed on Tuesday that his teenage son son died Monday night.

“There is no way I can type this, but I…. Our son, Dorian Zev Queller, was killed last night,” Ben wrote in a statement posted on Instagram. “He was only 16 years old and he was a real legend. The kindest, most gentle soul, a friend to all. If you knew him, you would know. We will never overcome it while we are here on earth.”

Queller did not reveal how his son was killed, but Variety said it was a car accident, citing a personal social media post by Queller’s wife.

Queller said that his son wrote and recorded songs every day.

“A real poet from the day he started talking. Only a few of his records were released, but he was on track and excited about his journey. He had so many plans!!!” He wrote.

Kweller said that his son’s first performance was to take place in SXSW Music Festival two weeks in Austin, Texas.

“My last message with him was about a merch he wanted to do,” he wrote. “My little one was at the start and he had so much life ahead of him… I have no idea why things like this happen. We are in complete shock and do not know what awaits us in the future.

“Lizzy, Judah and I have no idea how to deal with this disaster,” he added, referring to his wife and son. “Thank you for your prayers and support and we apologize if we are slow in responding to messages.”

His post was inundated with comments, including from a number of celebrities.

Lily Aldridge wrote“I’m really sorry. It’s unbearably heartbreaking. I send you all my love and prayers.”

Taylor Hanson left a few broken hearted emojis, saying, “No grief. I love you Kwellers.”

Pete Yorn said, “God, Ben, there are no words. Heart is breaking. I can’t even understand it. Deepest condolences to you and your family,” with Michelle Branch calling the news “heartbreaking.”

Kweller has toured with Ed Sheeran and has released six solo albums.
