Austin Mayor Kirk Watson tests positive for COVID-19

Austin, Texas – Austin Mayor Kirk Watson has tested positive for COVID-19.

Watson reported a positive test via Twitter Saturday. He says he will self-isolate at home in accordance with CDC protocols.

Watson says he is fully vaccinated and boosted.

“This situation is far from ideal, but I am still in touch with staff and will continue to work and receive briefings on storm recovery,” Watson said.

Watson also said he still expects to attend the Austin City Council meeting and business meeting next week, but remotely.
