Aspiring comedian goes viral on TikTok for living on just $100 a month in NYC

How long could you last on $100 in New York City?

An aspiring comedian claims he only spent a hundred bucks in about four weeks while living in the big expensive city.

Frankie Hoy, 27, started the stingy stunt on Nov. 4. and amassed over 100,000 followers on TikTok while chronicling the process.

On the first day, Hoy — who claims to live in a van and work at a catering company in between his unpaid open mic comedy performances — spent $7.26 on a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and a gallon of water, but “made it up” by hopping the turnstile to avoid paying a $2.75 subway fare.

In the clip, Hoy conceded that he was not “poor for realzies,” but admitted he made a life choice not to earn a lot of money so he could “work on his [stand-up] craft.”

On his most recent post on Wednesday morning, Hoy said his fortune dwindled to just $6.96 a whole 27 days later.

He splurged for a $1 slice of pizza, went to a bar where he ate free candy and didn’t order a drink, and brought a single pack of instant ramen noodles to his friend’s apartment to cook for dinner — spending the last of his one Benjamin.

Even though the comedian launched the stunt for attention, the amount of traction he got was no joke.

“When I was getting 50,000 [views] I got anxious,” Hoy told NBC News.

A huge jug of water was one of his purchases.

“I was like: ‘Oh, my God. I don’t know any of these people.’ And then it became hundreds of thousands, and I got anxious again,” Hoy reportedly said. “It’s just been a roller coaster of being anxious and then not being anxious, but most of the response has been positive.”

Hoy moved to the city from Perris, California last year to try his hand at stand-up. Now, his social media clips have attracted a much wider audience than any stage in Gotham.

The frugal funnyman first learned of his newfound fame when his phone started frantically pinging while he was onstage at an open mic, according to the outlet.

“I got all these comments like ‘I’m invested.’ And I was like, ‘In what?’ And then I opened it, and I was like: ‘Oh, thank God. It’s my video,’” Hoy said.

Amid his newfound fame, Foy also started blurring himself hopping the subway turnstiles, apparently in the hopes of not attracting attention from law enforcement.

Besides stealing from the MTA, Hoy reportedly stretches his dollars by ordering food that restaurants would otherwise throw out from an app called Too Good To Go.

His content has also prompted online copycats to see how long they could make $100 last.

“I’m really happy I got people interested in following and people to see my stand-up, but I really enjoyed the vlogging part of it,” Hoy reportedly said.

Foy had also started merchandising T-shirts to bring in some extra bucks. As of Wednesday, he had sold four of them for $18, according to the article.
