Asbury Park Man Arrested and Charged in Connection with Nonfatal Shooting

FREEHOLD – Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday that an 18-year-old man from Asbury Park has been arrested and charged in connection with a nonfatal shooting that occurred last month. Nazzir Wallace is facing multiple charges, including first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree weapons offenses, third-degree drug offenses, and various other charges.

The incident took place on Wednesday, August 30, at around 11 p.m. Asbury Park Police Department received a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Memorial Drive. Shortly after, they were notified that an adult male with a gunshot injury had been admitted to a nearby hospital. An investigation conducted by the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department led to the identification of Nazzir Wallace as a suspect.

Last week, Wallace was apprehended in Asbury Park after a brief pursuit. Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of a loaded firearm, as well as a quantity of cocaine and heroin. He is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) and will face proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The case is being prosecuted by MCPO Assistant Prosecutor Michael Luciano of the Major Crimes Bureau. The information regarding Wallace’s legal representation is not yet available.

It is important to note that despite the charges, Nazzir Wallace is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a trial that upholds all the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
