Arrested in Abilene for human trafficking

The US Marshals Service notified the APD of an endangered child who was staying at a motel in northern Abilene.

ABILEN, Texas. On Sunday, the Abilene Police Department’s Detention and Surveillance Tactics Team was notified by the U.S. Marshals Service of an endangered Lubbock child who was at the Abilene Motel on the north side and was a victim of human trafficking.

Additional information provided by Lubbock’s US Marshals was that the child was with 26-year-old Jaelind Fontaine, who was wanted from Lubbock for human trafficking along with an unidentified woman.

SATT agents put the motel under surveillance and were able to locate the endangered child and contact David Coy, 44, as part of their investigation.

An investigation revealed that Coy was involved in prostitution and he was arrested for prostitution at the State Penitentiary and taken to the Taylor County Jail.

Fontaine was found in the vehicle and fled the scene before SATT agents could apprehend him. The nearest agencies were alerted and received a description of the car he was driving. He and the woman, Sarah Gonzalez, were located by the Department of Public Safety on Interstate 20. Their vehicle was pulled over and both were taken into custody.

Sarah Gonzalez, a 25-year-old black woman (not pictured), was arrested for harboring a fugitive. Both Fontaine and Gonzalez were taken to the Eastland County Jail.

Cooperation between the US Marshals Service, Abilene Police Department’s SATT division, Youth Affairs, Bureau of Major Investigations and the Department of Public Safety led to the discovery of a trafficking victim and the arrest of suspects.
