Arrest Made in Broward County Following Tradition Shooting

Attempted Murder Suspect Apprehended in Port St. Lucie’s Tradition Community

Port St. Lucie, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, a 24-year-old Fort Lauderdale man has been arrested and is now facing an attempted first-degree murder charge in connection with a shooting that occurred in Port St. Lucie’s Tradition community. Police officials made this announcement on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Davontay Mosley, is currently being held in the Broward County jail, with plans underway to extradite him to St. Lucie County, according to a news release issued by Police spokesman Lieutenant Keith Boham.

The incident took place on Wednesday when authorities discovered a 27-year-old man who had sustained three gunshot wounds in the 11300 block of Southwest Stockton Place, located west of Florida’s Turnpike. The victim was immediately airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where he underwent treatment and was subsequently released. It is worth noting that the victim has invoked Marsy’s Law, which grants certain rights to crime victims.

Detectives from the Port St. Lucie Police Department wasted no time in securing an arrest warrant for Mosley on the same day. Fortunately, deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office successfully located the suspect’s vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes. Mosley was found to be one of three occupants in the vehicle at the time, as confirmed by Lt. Boham.

“While Mosley was in jail, PSLPD detectives were quickly able to put the pieces together and send Mosley’s warrant to the Broward County Jail,” Boham stated, commending the swift action taken by his team. Initially, Mosley was detained on charges of cannabis possession, driving without a valid driver’s license, and probation violation.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Port St. Lucie police revealed that the victim was shot while in his driveway by an assailant who subsequently fled the scene. The suspect managed to escape in a blue 2018 Kia Optima, which was captured on surveillance video. Sgt. Dominick Mesiti of the Port St. Lucie police explained, “It appears that the suspect vehicle entered the gated community by driving around the front gate and onto the grass.”

Authorities firmly believe that this shooting was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence. “We would like to thank our law enforcement partners at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for their support in assisting us in the quick apprehension of Mosley,” expressed Boham, acknowledging the collaborative effort in bringing the suspect to justice.

As the legal proceedings unfold, residents of Port St. Lucie’s Tradition community can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the alleged perpetrator has been taken off the streets. This incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role played by law enforcement agencies in swiftly responding to and resolving such grave matters.
