Arlington man who ate donuts during Austin street siege leads police in pursuit of indictment

An Arlington man who, according to police, was doing donuts and fire burning in Austin over the weekend, was arrested and charged.

According to court documents, 23-year-old Jerry Gore was in a Camaro drifting at the intersection of the I-35 access road and East Anderson Lane late Saturday night when the traffic police arrived.

Officers said the Camaro and Dodge Charger nearly hit pedestrians standing on the roadway.

When the traffic police officer turned on the sirens, the cars took off, accelerating to speeds of more than 150 miles per hour, according to detainees.

The Camaro followed by the DPS helicopter eventually stopped at 7-Eleven.

According to court documents, the servicemen found numerous magazines and two loaded guns inside the vehicle.

One of the pistols was a short rifle that was confirmed to have been stolen in Dallas.

Gore allegedly told servicemen that he was traveling from North Texas to Austin specifically to take over the street.

While Gore was in custody, servicemen noted that he composed a song in which he said that “there was a weapon in the car.”

Gore was arrested for stealing a firearm, evading arrest with a motor vehicle, obstructing a road during an exhibition, reckless driving, and illegal possession of a weapon.

Video footage of the capture shows a chaotic scene: machines are making donuts, fireworks are exploding, and some people are bursting into flames.

On Tuesday, Austin police announced that one person was arrested by the DPS and six people were arrested by the APD in connection with a weekend event.
