Another fentanyl arrest in Carrollton and an overdose on campus at R.L. High School. Turner

High school student R.L. Turner is recovering at a local hospital after being found unconscious at the school, according to a message principal Adam Greenidge sent to parents on Friday afternoon.

“The student swallowed a pill and as a result stopped responding,” read the message, sent at 12:38 and received Observer from parents in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. “Our staff and ambulance personnel immediately took action and provided medical assistance to the student. After being injected with Narcan, the student came to her senses and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The student received medical attention and will be released today.”

Narcan is a nasal spray medicine used to treat the effects of an opioid overdose. The type of pill the student took was not named in the post, but the note also said, “There are several resources that can help educate our students about the dangers of fentanyl on our fentanyl web page on our district website.”

Also on Friday, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas announced the arrest of Donovan Jude Andrews, 20, who authorities say is “a Carrollton drug dealer who allegedly profited from the arrest of two known fentanyl dealers to entice young buyers.” was charged with a federal drug offense, the report said.

According to the U.S. Attorney, Andrews sold M30 pills to teenagers at R. L. Turner High School and Hebron High School, also in Carrollton, through social media, announcing that he was selling his pills for $10 each. The press release added that “According to the complaint, law enforcement concluded that Mr. Andrews allegedly sold fentanyl to minors, knowing full well that counterfeit M30 pills like those he distributed were responsible for numerous overdoses and deaths.”

M30 is the name of a pill containing oxycodone, a powerful pain reliever.

This is the fourth arrest in the past few weeks related to fentanyl trafficking in the school district. In February, Luis Navarrete, Magali Cano and Jason Villanueva were arrested in connection with a fentanyl case that authorities say resulted in three deaths and seven overdoses of teenagers at the ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch.

Friday’s events come just two days after school officials announced that a teacher had been fired from his position after an investigation revealed they provided an unnamed prescription drug to a student.
