An MDPD officer wrestles with an alligator that has appeared in the middle of a road in southwest Miami-Dade.

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL. (WSVN) – A Miami-Dade police officer from the Kendall area has taken it upon himself to bicker with an alligator he spotted in the driveway.

Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Miami-Dade police units were dispatched to the area of southwest 136th Street and 97th Avenue in connection with the nearly 7-foot-long reptile.

MDPD officer Manuel Orol was the first to notice this before calling for reinforcements. In the end, he kept it himself.

“Right in the front, just tied to this thing,” he said. “This is a real tow rope. This is a soft rope. I managed to lasso it around my legs.”

There were no reports of injuries, but this caught the attention of some and may have been linked to at least one accident: a white car at the scene had to be towed.

Employees of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission helped corral the alligator.

After tying the animal’s hands and feet and blindfolding it, they pushed it into the back of a pickup truck.

A hunter from the State Alligator Control Program then arrived on the scene and took the alligator away.

Some clicks and hisses as workers prepared it for its journey from this Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.

Its job is to move alligators 4 feet or more in length, and the FWC has stated that this alligator is 6 to 7 feet long.

“I was concerned that the alligator had to be restrained because it could leave the area,” Orol said, “and, as I said earlier, could harm a child or someone who walks their dog.”

He is already receiving feedback on his feat.

“They’re like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe you did that’, you know, ‘good job’, ‘you’re crazy,'” Orol added with a smile.

The officer said he saw the alligator chasing the cat and felt the need to intervene.
