Alleged attempted murder wounded two police officers during arrest at Lawrence Target

Squad 4 reports the arrest of a man from Inwood for an assault that took place on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 7:33 am in North Lawrence.
Defendant Rakuan Howard, 23, of 355 Bayview Avenue, wanted for attempted murder in Nassau County, was at the target located at 345 Rockaway Turnpike, detectives said.
When employees identified the defendant at the self-service checkout and attempted to arrest the defendant. Defendant Howard became physically belligerent, and a Nassau County police officer, off-duty, assisted in apprehending the accused.
One officer and a duty officer were injured during the arrest because the accused was violent and militant in resisting arrest.
The policemen and the defendant were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Defendant Rakwan Howard is charged with two (2) counts of 2nd degree assault and resisting arrest. He will be charged in the First Circuit Court at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
