Aldine ISD investigates alleged child sexual abuse on school bus – Northeast News

ALDIN – The mother of 6-year-old student Aldine ISD said her son was sexually abused by an older student on a school bus for several months before she was notified.

On Monday, the mother held a press conference with Dr. Candace Matthews of the Texas Democratic Coalition and community activist Quannell X. Matthews said there was video footage of the incident, but the bus driver did not respond because he thought a fight was going on.

“Whenever you have an incident on this campus, according to Texas Education Agency law, you must notify parents of what happened.” Matthews said.

According to the mother, her son, who is in the first grade, rides the bus with older children, which she complained about. “I came here before I found out why my son was on the bus with the older kids,” she said. “One day I sat here for two hours waiting to talk to someone about this particular bus route, about not having a regular bus driver, about the route always changing, about being there for five and six years for two days. consecutive hours.”

The mother, whose name will not be released as the sexual assault case is involved, said her son came home last Tuesday without a backpack, prompting her to ask what happened.

“He came home without a backpack on Tuesday night,” she said. She said she called the school’s transportation department the next morning and asked if they could contact the driver to see if his belongings were on the bus. “The day I asked for it, I was casually told another student threw it out the window. So I asked to speak to the supervisor, I spoke to the supervisor… I asked them if they could review it, identify the student, contact principals so we can talk between parents and teachers with another family to fix the situation between my child and the other child “.

The mother said that five hours later she received a call to pick up her son and that a police officer, Aldine ISD, wanted to speak to her.

“I thought maybe my son did something wrong. I come to school and find out that my son was sexually abused,” she said. “Days of talking with my child, the details became more and more evident each time. What I thought was just an oral incident was actually a physical incident. No one has been held accountable, I’m pissed as hell.”

The mother said that she asked what happened to the bus driver and another student, but did not receive any details. However, she said she wanted the driver to be arrested. The video also showed that the attacks had lasted for three whole months.

“If my child had been molested in my presence at my home, I would have been put in jail for threatening a child, I would be sitting behind bars now,” she said. “The bus driver was neglected, she didn’t do her job.”

Quannell X said the bus driver assumed there had been a fight on the bus, “but it was a kid who was fighting and screaming.”

“The child was taken to the hospital,” he said. “There is evidence of physical, absolute rape. And so far, the school has done nothing to offer psychological help to this mother, this child.”

Aldine ISD said in a statement:

“The safety of our students remains a top priority at Aldine ISD and we are committed to providing a safe environment in the classroom as well as when transporting to another school. Campus leaders are constantly working to monitor student behavior and communicate with parents to resolve issues when incidents occur. An investigation by Aldine ISD PD and the county began immediately on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 23, after the county became aware of an accident on a county bus involving two of our elementary school students. The CPS has been notified. Appropriate action will be taken based on the results of the investigation. Because this is an active investigation and in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we cannot provide additional information to protect the privacy of student information.”

Child Protective Services has reportedly confirmed that it is investigating the incident.
