Alamodome is one of the ten ugliest in the US

The Buildworld website compiled their list of the “Top Ten Most Disgusting Buildings in the US” because of the percentage of tweets that criticize building design.

SAN ANTONIO — The famous Alamodome, which holds so many memories for many San Antonio residents, has made it to the top ten ugliest buildings in the country.

The list comes from the Buildworld website, which received its “Top Ten Most Annoying Buildings in the US” list due to the percentage of tweets that criticize building design.

The Alamodome, located east of downtown San Antonio, ranked 9th on the list.

Its design may seem ugly to some, but the unique cable supports at each corner were innovative for the time it was built. The Alamodom was the first stadium in the country to use them to support a huge flat roof.

Alamodome opened in 1993 and was the former home of the San Antonio Spurs before the team moved to the AT&T Center in 2002. The team returned to the Alamodom last week in a historic game against the Golden State Warriors. A new attendance record for an NBA regular season game was set, with nearly 70,000 fans in attendance.

The building also houses the Valero Alamo Bowl, one of the top college football games. It reliably attracts top teams every year with healthy attendances and a boost to the local economy. Looking ahead, the dome will soon be home to San Antonio’s newest professional team, the Brahmas.

Other buildings that made the list of ugly buildings include the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington DC.
