Alabama family’s “wolf-hybrid” fatally attacks 3-month-old baby: Sheriff

In a tragic incident, a 3-month-old boy lost his life as his parents attempted to rescue him from the clutches of an unconventional family pet. The hybrid animal, described as part dog and part wolf, proved to be fatal for the young child. The unfortunate event took place in Chelsea, Alabama.

According to reports, when first responders arrived at the scene shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, the baby had already been bitten but was still alive. He was immediately rushed to Grandview Medical Center for urgent medical attention. However, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the young boy was later pronounced dead.

Authorities took swift action by euthanizing the “wolf-hybrid” pet. The animal’s remains were then transferred to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory in Auburn for further examination. Shelby County Sheriff’s office confirmed these details.

Lina Evans, the Shelby County Coroner, revealed that the dog’s lineage included wolf ancestry. This information was supported by the family and investigators involved in the case. The presence of wolf genes in the hybrid pet raises concerns regarding its behavior and potential dangers.

The International Wolf Center, an organization dedicated to the study and conservation of wolves, has issued a comprehensive warning regarding the ownership of such hybrids. The center emphasizes the challenges faced by owners of these animals, citing their inconsistent and unpredictable behavior due to their genetic makeup. These traits pose significant safety risks to humans.

Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer expressed his shock and disbelief at the tragic incident. He confirmed the child’s untimely demise, referring to the pet as an “exotic family pet.” The mayor questioned how one could ever recover from the unimaginable loss of a child and the harrowing circumstances surrounding it.

This unfortunate incident serves as a painful reminder of the potential dangers associated with owning exotic pets, particularly those with complex genetic backgrounds. The loss of a precious life at such a tender age has undoubtedly left the community grief-stricken and searching for answers.
