Airline delays caused by technical difficulties for Spirit and Air Canada.

Spirit Airlines and Air Canada have both been plagued by technical issues, resulting in the delay of numerous flights. In an initial tweet, Spirit Airlines confirmed that the problem had affected its website, app, and airport kiosks. The airline later reported, via a tweet, that the network issue between third-party services had been resolved at noon EDT. However, according to FlightAware, nearly half of Spirit’s flights were delayed.

“We apologize for any delays and inconvenience, and we’re now working our way back to normal operations,” said the budget airline, adding that travelers should check the status of their flights and arrive at the airport early.

Meanwhile, Air Canada tweeted midday Thursday that it was undergoing an IT issue that was causing flight delays before later stating that operations were stabilizing, and flights were departing. Over 30% of Air Canada’s flights were delayed, per FlightAware.

Both airlines recommended customers check their flight status on their respective websites before heading to the airport. Spirit Airlines also cautioned that it expected lines to be longer than usual.

The technical glitches have resulted in much frustration for passengers affected, particularly given the already significant disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, both airlines have stated that they are working tirelessly to resolve the issues and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

It is unclear at this stage what caused the technical issues, and both companies have yet to offer any further information.
