Adams calls out accused Robert De Niro burglar: ‘Enemy of our public safety’

Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday called out the serial burglar accused of breaking into Robert De Niro’s Manhattan townhouse as an example of the rampant recidivism plaguing New York City.

Adams, speaking to The Post’s editorial board, pointed to suspect Shanice Aviles — a repeat offender with at least 26 arrests on her rap sheet — as “the enemy of our public safety.”

“This woman was arrested for burglary over and over again while out on a burglary charge,” Adams said.

“She’s doing it again,” he said. “That’s the enemy of our public safety in this city, in this country.”

The mayor added that “recidivism is the enemy of our cities across America.”

Aviles, 30, already had been busted 16 times so far this year when cops nabbed her inside De Niro’s $69,000-a-month Upper East Side townhouse early Monday, police said.

She had open burglary cases in Queens, and was sought on two bench warrants — including for skipping out on a court-ordered Manhattan drug rehab placement earlier this month.

Aviles was arraigned on a felony burglary charge late Monday and ordered held at Rikers Island on $40,000 cash bail pending a return court appearance on Friday.

Adams told The Post Tuesday he would go back at Albany lawmakers to make another push for his criminal justice agenda to get tough with repeat offenders like Aviles.

“Those who have covered Albany know that sometimes it takes one or two legislative sessions before you land the plane,” he said. “I’ve been up there and I know how long it took for us to push for many of these items that we got moved forward.

“And I’m going back with an agenda on those items that we didn’t get, such as recidivism,” he added. “Recidivism is the enemy of our cities across America.”
