According to a News 6 political pundit, DeSantis will address “cultural issues” during Florida’s 2023 legislative session.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida. — News 6 political expert and University of Central Florida history professor Jim Clark said all eyes will be on Florida’s legislative session over the next 60 days.

The Legislative Assembly is expected to consider a number of bills relating to death sentences, gun laws and education.

Clark called them hallmarks of Governor Ron DeSantis.

“I think you will hear the word “woke up” several hundred times a day after this session. He deals with cultural issues,” Clarke said.

The legislative session begins Tuesday, and the legislature is expected to consider bills that would allow Floridians to carry concealed weapons without a permit, as well as pass a bill that would change the death penalty to now allow it without a unanimous jury.

“He will get whatever he wants. Leaders are already talking about adopting the DeSantis agenda,” Clark said.

Education is also expected to be part of that agenda with proposed legislation that would place term limits on school boards, a bill of rights for teachers and an expansion of school vouchers.

Despite DeSantis’ nationwide publicity with his book tour, Clarke said this legislative session is important before any presidential race announcements.

“He does not want anything to distract from the Legislative Assembly now. He wants all the bills he’s going to introduce to be successful,” Clarke said.
