A woman was seriously injured during a fire in Brooklyn, where lithium-ion batteries were found

A woman was seriously injured when a fire broke out in two apartment buildings in Bushwick on Tuesday morning.

According to the FDNY, firefighters responded to the fire at 14 Goodwin Place around 1:30 a.m. and found heavy flames on the first and second floors. They rescued one woman from her apartment at the back of the second floor and she was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance with serious injuries.

The fire engulfed all three floors of the building and spread to a residential building next door.

The FDNY said several electric bikes and scooters with lithium-ion batteries were found on the ground floor, which were later removed by firefighters.

FDNY Chief of Operations John Esposito called the firefighters’ efforts “outstanding”, saying the intense flames they encountered made putting out the fire particularly difficult.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
