A van catches fire on US 1 in Coral Gables, causing traffic to stop; driver is ok

CORAL GABLES, Florida. (WSVN) — A driver managed to escape his van after it caught fire in Coral Gables, causing traffic jams on busy US 1.

Coral Gables Police and Fire and Rescue teams arrived at the scene of a fire on the 800 block of the South Dixie Highway on Thursday afternoon.

Rescuers managed to quickly get the upper hand and put out the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The police blocked traffic in the area while crews worked at the scene. Since then, the roadway has been reopened.
