A sucker referee was hit during a football game at SW Miami-Dade Park.

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL. (WSVN) – A referee opens and shares his story days after he and another referee were beaten at a football game in southwest Miami-Dade.

Speaking through an interpreter on Friday, Julian Barrientos spoke of a hand-to-hand fight on Sunday night during the last game he officiated at Kendall Soccer Park, located at Southwest 80th Street and 127th Avenue.

Barrientos said his colleague, Yerli Briceno, suffered the most when he was kicked in the face after being knocked down.

But Barrientos said refereeing the game was no picnic for him either.

Barrientos said that as Briceño lay on the ground in pain, he was hit on the back of the head.

“[The player] hit me, and when I tried to dodge, he managed to hit me on the head,” Barrientos said.

Barrientos, who has officiated professional football matches in his native Argentina, said a wild fight broke out when players disagreed with his calls. Then the player really crossed the line.

“When his teammates let him go, he immediately went into action,” Barrientos said. “He came from the side with full force, hit me in the head. After that, like two steps later, he kicks my colleague.”

A video of a fight and a fight on a mobile phone got into social networks.

Briceño was hospitalized with facial and head injuries, but Barrientos said he also had tumors.

“I have a hematoma on my head here. I think my colleague suffered the most, but I also suffered a lot,” he said.

Lawyer Andrés Vidales represents Briseño. He said he wanted to arrest the player who attacked the men.

“This is an aggravated battery. Any aggravated beating of a sports official is a criminal offense,” he said.

Miami-Dade Police said they have assigned a detective to investigate the case.

“Who really did this?” Vidales said.

Vidales said that Briseño is also suffering from psychological trauma.

As of Friday evening, police had not made an arrest.
