A one-vehicle motorcycle accident killed a Winter Haven man, according to the sheriff’s office.

CYPRESS GARDENS, Florida. – According to the sheriff’s office, a one-vehicle motorcycle accident claimed the life of a 26-year-old Winter Haven man, which likely played a role in the crash.

The crash happened around 1:51 a.m. on Cypress Gardens West Boulevard near Cypress Gardens Road, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

According to the report, the motorcyclist, who the sheriff’s office identified as Freddie Wardlow III, died at the scene.

Detectives, citing evidence and witness statements, believe that Wardlaw hit the curb while driving into a small curve in the roadway at high speed, hitting a credit union sign, MIDFLORIDA. The report states that Wardlow was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but suffered blunt force injuries.

The western lanes of Cypress Gardens Boulevard were closed in the area for approximately three hours, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation is ongoing.
