A Florida police officer was injured after a 20-year-old DUI driver crashed into a parked patrol car on I-95, FHP reported.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol said a service member was injured early Wednesday morning after a drunk driver crashed into his vehicle on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale.

The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on I-95 southbound near the Broward Boulevard exit.

FHP spokeswoman Lt. Indiana Miranda said a 20-year-old Weston man was driving south on I-95 in a 2011 Jeep when he drove through a closed barrier and hit an orange cone.

The soldier was stopped on I-95 between the outer and outer center lanes, facing north with hazard lights on. FHP reported that the center, outside the center and outer lanes were coneded due to construction work.

According to Miranda, after driving through the barrier, the Weston man’s jeep did not stop and crashed into the soldier’s cruiser.

The soldier suffered an injury to his right leg, which was called “incapacitating”.

A Weston man, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital for a medical examination due to alcohol intoxication.

Miranda said the driver remains under medical supervision before being sent to the Broward County Jail on charges of drunk driving.
