A family in the Watsonville area struggles with flooding

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA. (KION-TV) – College Road is flooding again. People who call home have to leave their homes, as in the case of Chinaberry Justus.

“It’s very frustrating,” Justus said. “You never know if you have the right things. You never know. For example, we were evacuated this morning and we forgot the medicine for my mom, so I had to go back, and that’s why I walked by.”

The rain and flooding on College Road became so severe that the connecting streets also felt the effects. Dogwood Drive is one such street. Victor Cortez in the TV series “Kizil” explained what he did for his family the minute he felt water enter their house.

“We saw the creek behind our house slowly rise up and get closer to our house,” Cortez said. “So we left. Our family is safe now. And I just came back to check.”

Both Cortes and Justus hope that their homes will remain as they left them.

“I took the video as I was leaving, literally saying, ‘I wonder what you will look like when I get back,’” Justus said. “I don’t know. You know, we took the things we thought were most important to us that we could take with us this morning and other things. We just hope he’s there or we won’t miss him.” “.

These homeowners also have a warning for people who just want to witness the flood.

Cortes gave some advice: “Stay away from flood zones. This will worsen the situation of the people who live there.”

Not just for people who need roads cleared for evacuation, but for any emergency crews monitoring the situation.
