A 74-year-old vandal wanted for slashing NYPD car tires near a police station is arrested when he returned to report his car had been stolen.

The vandal, wanted for slashing the tires of seven NYPD vehicles near a police station in Queens, returned to the scene two days later to report his own car theft and was arrested, police said on Monday.

Jose Patino, 74, was wearing the same outfit on Sunday as he had been wearing two days earlier when he allegedly struck near the 112th Precinct on Austin Street, near Yellowstone Boulevard. in Forest Hills, police said.

He punctured one tire each on four NYPD-marked and three unmarked vehicles around 7 a.m., authorities said.

The NYPD released photos of a man who slashed the tires of seven NYPD vehicles parked outside a station building in Queens on Friday morning, police said.

Police said at the time that the suspect, wearing a brown hat, multicolored jacket and black trousers, got into a beige SUV and drove away. On Friday, police even released surveillance footage of the suspect and asked the public for help in identifying him.

When Patino showed up on Sunday to report his own car theft, police recognized him from CCTV footage and questioned him about his tire cuts, leading him to confess.

Patino, who police say lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn, was charged with felony mischief. He had no previous arrests, and it is not clear why he committed the act of vandalism, police said.
