Tuskegee, Alabama On February 4, 1913, seamstress-turned-civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama.
In accordance with RosaParks.orgParks was Rosa Louise McCauley. She was the first child of James and Leona Edwards McCauley.
The family later moved to Pine Level, Alabama, where Rose was educated at a country school.
Rosa received her high school diploma in 1934, having married Raymond Parkes on December 18, 1932.
Raymond is said to have been self-taught with the help of his mother Jeri Parks. His impeccable dress and his thorough knowledge of domestic affairs and current events led most to think that he had graduated.
When she was 42, Parks was arrested in Montgomery for refusing to get up from her seat on public transportation in front of a white man.
This act, along with her ongoing work with various civil rights organizations such as the NAACP, forever left her mark on the movement to end racial segregation and tensions in the US.
