IMMOCALIE, Florida. The annual countdown begins Thursday in Collier County.
Point-in-time counting helps keep track of homeless people in and out of shelter.
The Collier County Hunger and Homelessness Coalition plays a huge role in helping the homeless in the county. They are responsible for the count in partnership with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Organizations and volunteers will travel to different areas to find the homeless to get an accurate count and look at some of the problems the homeless population is facing.
Results from past years showed that 462 people in Collier County were homeless.
More than 160 of these people have been identified as children and youth.
