72-Year-Old New Jersey Hunter Found Deceased in Chenango County, NY Search

Town of German, Chenango County, New York— On November 18, 2023, at 10:45 p.m., Forest Ranger Oldroyd from the New York Department of Conservation responded to a distress call regarding a missing hunter. The 72-year-old hunter, whose identity has not been released by the department, failed to return to their hunting camp, prompting one of their partners to contact the authorities. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Chenango County Search and Rescue Team, and the Genegantslet Fire Department joined forces with the Forest Rangers to conduct a search operation.

After hours of searching, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the search crews tragically discovered the lifeless body of the hunter from New Jersey. The deceased individual was promptly handed over to the Greene Ambulance Squad and the coroner for further investigation. This unfortunate incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

The Genegantslet Fire Company also played a crucial role in the search efforts. On Saturday, November 18, 2023, at around 10:15 p.m., they were dispatched to Townline Road in the Town of German to assist in the search operation.
