6-year-old Ukrainian girl who lost her eye in a missile attack is flying to South Florida for treatment

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Florida. (WSVN) – A 6-year-old girl from Ukraine arrived in South Florida for assistance after she was seriously injured in a missile attack.

7News cameras caught Alisa Kulvinskaya shortly after she landed at Miami International Airport on Friday night.

Kulvinskaya and her parents were in their house when a rocket hit it.

The translator described the parents’ story of painful moments.

“Big shock for them. Like, she is silent, and then she hits right into her room, apartment, hits right into her room, ”the interpreter said. “He fell silent, and then it got dark. There were screams, and the father, he said, ran to save her, pull her out of the rubble and give her medical attention. Mom got some damage too, so yeah, it was a big shock.”

Kulvinskaya lost one eye in the attack. Doctors were able to provide emergency care, but she needed more thorough care.

The Romulus T. Weatherman Foundation has partnered with Holtz Children’s Hospital to help Kulvinskaya and her family leave Ukraine and bring her to South Florida.

The Weatherman Foundation, which helps evacuate children and families, has been working to get the Kulvinskaya family from Ukraine to Warsaw, Poland — a 17-hour ambulance ride — before they make their way to Sunny State.
