4.9 million bottles of Fabuloso cleaner recalled due to bacteria problems

ORLANDO, Florida. “Millions of bottles of Fabuloso Multi Purpose Cleaner are being recalled due to concerns about bacteria that can cause disease in people with weakened immune systems.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Wednesday.

Parent company Colgate-Palmolive is recalling 4.9 million bottles of various flavors and sizes. It is used to clean most residential hard surfaces. The company said about 80% of the bottles never made it to the market, but others were sold on Amazon and at Dollar General, Family Dollar, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Walmart and other major retail chains across the country.

The CPSC said the recalled products may contain bacteria of the Pseudomonas spp., which are environmental organisms found widely in soil and water.

People with healthy immune systems are not usually affected by the bacteria, but people with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions are at risk of serious infection and may need medical attention.

All affected bottles were produced between December 14, 2022 and January 23, 2023.

A complete list of UPC codes and recall lots can be found on the Fabuloso website. Buyers can find the lot code on the back of the bottle above the label. Customers must stop using the recalled product and request a refund or replacement through the Fabuloso website.
