3-year-old girl from Texas shot dead 4-year-old sister after finding a loaded gun at home

A three-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her four-year-old sister Sunday night in an apartment in Houston, Texas.

The incident became known shortly before 20:00 local time, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at a press conference.

Two girls and five adults, all of whom were family members and friends, were spending time in an apartment on Bammel North Houston Road near Tombball Parkway when the shooting took place.

According to Gonzalez, the girls and their parents lived in the apartment.

One night, the girls were left alone in the bedroom because one parent thought the other was watching them. According to Gonzalez, the three-year-old girl found a loaded gun and fired one shot, wounding her sister.

The four-year-old girl died on the spot.

The family members heard the gunshot and rushed to the bedroom, took their weapons and reported the incident to the authorities.

It is currently unclear if any charges will be filed in connection with the shooting.
