3 shot after minor crash leads to shooting at SE Houston intersection, police say

HOUSTON – Three people were shot after a minor crash at an intersection led to an argument, then a shooting in southeast Houston early Sunday, Houston police said.

It happened in the 2200 block of Rainbow Drive at around 2 a.m.

HPD Lt. R. Willkens said a truck and a sedan were believed to be involved in a minor crash.

At some point, both vehicles drove for a short time, and investigators said the driver of the truck hit the sedan, disabling it at the intersection of Herbert and Rainbow.

Investigators said both groups from both vehicles were involved in an argument about the crash. Two people in the sedan claimed the passengers in the truck were attempting to rob them, according to Willkens.

Moments later, Willkens said the two people in the sedan pulled out guns and fired at the passengers in the truck, striking three of them. A fourth passenger was not hurt.

Paramedics transported the three victims to an area hospital, where one remains in critical condition.

Two passengers from the sedan and the fourth passenger from the truck were taken for questioning by police.

Police are looking for surveillance video to figure out what led to the assault.
