3 senior citizens dead after house fire in Clifton, NJ

Three senior citizens died in a roaring house fire in Clifton, NJ, authorities said.

The victims were identified as 95-year-old Helen Popovich, Steven Warga, 65, and Elaine Warga, 71, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, northjersey.com reported.

The fast-moving blaze broke out at a multi-family home on Ladwik Lane around 7:30 p.m. Friday, investigators said.

Firefighters found two of the dead victims on the second floor and another in the basement, according to dailyvoice.com.

A fourth unidentified individual was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, NJ, in stable condition, according to the prosecutor’s office who said the cause of the blaze is undetermined and the probe, “active and ongoing.”

Three firefighters and a Clifton police officer also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
